I Think I am Finally a Grown-Up

I can’t believe that during the month of July
  • I put my baby on an airplane to fly alone for the first time.
  • I sent my baby off to summer school, knowing that I wouldn’t see her or hug her or smell her hair or suck on her cheeks for three whole weeks.
  • I went a couple of days without talking to my baby.
  • My baby went to the ER last night and was given an IV for dehydration and I wasn’t there.
  • I handled all of the above without ever freaking-out…not even once. My blood pressure has remained the same the entire time.

During the month of August

  • I will be the mother of a junior in high school who will have her license to drive (I remember when they handed her to me in the hospital after she was born and I put my cheek on her cheek and she was so warm!!! My life began at that moment.)
  • I will be the mother of an eighth-grader who cracks me up with her wit every time she opens her mouth (and who was wrapped up way too tightly when they handed her to me!! From the moment I saw her I knew instinctively that she was going to see the world in her own way, and she has certainly proven me right.)

However, have no fear!!!!!Because during the month of SeptemberI will resort to being a kid again when

  • I haul out all the dozen or so American Girl dolls and start brushing their hair and dressing them in their Halloween costumes! Yes, I need to start in September. It takes me that long to get them ready!!! Or maybe I should say that I MAKE it take that long to get them ready. You see, first I have to undress them from their Christmas outfits…
