The other night Neil and I were reminiscing about my first car that I bought (in New Jersey) when I was in high school. (That car played an integral part in how Neil and I met each other, but that is a story for another blog post.) The best part about our conversation was listening to Erica giggle. She enjoyed hearing about the good ‘ole days from before she was born.
I was happy to find this photo online of the exact color, year, and model of my 1976 blue four-door Ford Maverick. There is even a photo of the lines in the vinyl upholstery. Those lines were one of the things that Neil and I remembered.
The car was $2,500.00. I made payments of $50 every month from the job I had selling clothes at the mall. One day (after we moved to Florida) I was driving home for lunch and a lady smashed into the entire passenger side. The insurance company gave me a check for $2,500.00 for repairs.
Instead of having the car repaired, I drove around with a smashed-in passenger side for a year or more. I used the money for college.
I ended up selling the car for $200.00. And that is part one of the story of my Maverick. Part two will be posted on another day!
