I Love New York

But I think you already knew that.
Here is a photo story of our weekend.
Yep.  I am weird.  I wear a mask when I fly.  My family laughs at me.  Then I laugh at them when we get home and they all have sinus infections and I don’t.
Neil had to go to the New Jersey office after we landed on Thursday.  Look at the rental car they gave us!  Why can’t we score one of these puppies when it’s the four of us on a family vacation?
While Neil went to Jersey, I met up with Erica and the band and bopped around with her a little bit.  Then I headed out on my own for the rest of the day (and night!)
I headed off to American Girl Place.  I was in heaven.  Normally, it is so crowded you can’t move, but it was empty.  I had a nice chat with one of the gals who works there…they get a 30% discount off of everything.
I took the subway by myself to Canal Street.  I just had to go one last time.  And one last time it was.  More than half of the stores are boarded up.  It looks like the Harper’s Bazaar “Fakes are Never in Fashion” campaign really worked.
Okay, so here’s a big coincidence. My cyberfriend, Natalie Hill, whose blog I randomly stumbled upon one day and whose blog eWillow.com sponsored for awhile, just so happened to host a party on Thursday night.  It was fun getting to meet her!  (I realized how old I am.  A Bon Jovi song came on and one of Natalie’s friends actually said, “I doubt anyone in here is old enough to know who Bon Jovi is.”  I looked down at the age spot on my hand and wanted to die.)
Neily Bear and I spent Friday at Riverside Church with
Erica and the band, watching them compete at the Heritage Festival.
Here are a few virtual gifts.
This is for my mom (inside joke:)
This is for Sharon:  (and Nancy and Banana)
This is for anyone who smokes and is thinking about moving to NYC:
In the airport on the way home, we bumped into David Letterman:
And just a few feet away was Johnny Carson:
*no, these guys really aren’t David and Johnny…but how strange that they both look so much like them and they were sitting just a few seats apart in the terminal*
Final thoughts:
1)  I’m glad I decided not to stay at the Marriott Marquis.  We would have had to evacuate during the bomb situation on Saturday night.
2)  I’m glad we decided to go to bed early on Saturday night, thus avoiding all of the chaos in Times Square that ensued.
3)  Erica’s band swept all of the top awards at the Festival.  The orchestra and chorus won all of the top awards, too.  I have to add that they were a middle school and they competed against high schools (and still won every award.  It was amazing.)
4)  I don’t like NYC midtown, west of 7th Avenue.  It is the seedy part of town.
5)  I can live without Canal Street.
6)  I’m glad that Sharon wasn’t able to meet me because it meant that I didn’t have to say goodbye to her.
One more thing…
Round 3 of “So You Think You’re Crafty” started today!
Please vote for me so I can remain in the competition.
It’s pretty easy this week to guess which project is mine.

Hey Charlene! Looks like you had a BLAST in the city! Lucky that you got nice weather, too. Let me know next time you're coming up and we'll definitely get together. I think we would have tried to cram too much in and would have regretted not being able to just "hang" a little.

What's Natalie like in person? Isn't Johnny Carson dead?

It's not really Johnny Carson! It's not really David Letterman, either! I saw the guy with the baseball hat and thought he looked just like David Letterman. I kept staring at him. About twenty minutes later, I see a guy walk by who looked just like Johnny Carson. It was too bizarre for me! I asked them both if I could take their pictures.

Natalie is a joy in person! Very bubbly and kind. I never felt so old before, though. She and her friends were born the year I graduated high school. Yuk!

Yes, we'll hook up next time. 😉 I hope you both had great birthdays!
