Miles of Smiles!

Let’s hope!

Adrienne decided that for her upcoming 16th birthday, instead of a party and instead of going to the “NJ House,” she wanted to see New Orleans. So we will soon head on a road trip with planned stops in:

1) Gainesville to see UF (gotta get all those college tours in, ya know!) and to show the girls the house we lived in for a month as newlyweds (Neil worked in Gainesville for a short time)

2) Pensacola Beach (never been there)

3) Foley, AL where my dad lived for awhile when he was a child

4) New Orleans (final destination)

We were hoping that maybe we could continue on to Houston to visit Sharon and Jeddy-Pooh, or maybe have them meet us in New Orleans, but maybe next time!

Any recommendations of things, places, food, stuff to see, do, eat along the way or in New Orleans????

One thing is for sure…if the Targets are good along the way, this is a trip we might repeat in the future! (Hey, it’s almost my birthday, too, and I have always wanted to take a road trip and stop at all the Target stores along the way.)

On another note, I dug up this little book by American Girl while I was doing some cleaning. The games are adorable and appropriate for any age and for boys or girls.

Don’t forget to leave suggestions!!

Thanks to Neil’s reward points, Santa brought both girls $100 gift cards to Saks Fifth Avenue. We had a fun time this morning looking through their sale racks….the fact that the markdowns were an extra 60% off made our adventure even more exciting.

If I had a working camera, I would show you what they scored. Suffice it to say, Adrienne figured out that if she had paid full price for the two pairs of jeans she bought (one of them being a pair of “Seven” jeans) the total would have been $360.00. Her total? $87.00. She was excited to have money left over to buy this really cool Clinique mascara she discovered.

Erica’s grand total of full-priced merchandise would have been $550.00. She bought five shirts (including two Juicy Couture shirts that alone originally cost over $200) for $110.00.

It’s great to use those gift cards! It’s even better when the gift cards are free from reward points!

Hope your Christmas was merry!!!

(P.S. You know the economy is bad when Saks has 60% off the clearance price for an entire DAY. Their after-Christmas sale usually expires at noon.)

On another note, we ran into the girls’ elementary school principal in Saks. I run into her more at the mall than I did when I substituted at the school on a regular basis! It is always fun to run into her…she is a classy lady and it really would have been a compliment to work for her as a full-time teacher…but that is a post for another day! (Or you can re-read it under “Example 2” HERE.)

Blessings and Miracles are In the Eyes of the Beholder

This was me last week:

This is me today:
So, what is the blessing and what is the miracle?
I always dread being sick (who doesn’t?) but it is always stressful for me to be sick AND to have a messy house simultaneously.
Today I am grateful to be sick in bed and HAVE a clean house. It it so much easier to rest. I think I ran myself ragged with the mental stress of having Neily Bear in Canada for the last week dealing with the death of his brother.
Thankfully, he comes home tomorrow night. Unfortunately, he will return to a sick wife. But he will be so happy that the house is completely clean! So clean, if fact, that my brother will have to come up with some new material on Christmas day to tease me about. 🙂 Every door to every room will be open!!! Now, my friends, that truly is a miracle.
