A couple of years ago our wonderful Gardens Mall had an exhibit of dresses worn by Grace Kelly and others in Alfred Hitchcock movies. I totally LOVED it! Today while we were at the mall we happened upon another exhibit called “Cinematic Couture.” More love!! The girls thought it was cool, too! Here is a write-up:
The Gardens Mall is delighted to exhibit “CINEMATIC COUTURE” which features more than 40 original period costumes worn by such stars as Kate Winslet (Finding Neverland), Madonna (Evita), Nicole Kidman (Portrait of a Lady), Renee Zellweger (Miss Potter), Meryl Streep (Out of Africa), Johnny Depp (Finding Neverland), and Elizabeth Taylor (Young Toscanini). FACTS:This exhibition has been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as The Somerset Collection in Michigan. This exhibition will be making its Florida Debut at The Gardens Mall. The costumes are the actual costumes worn by the actors in the movies listed above. These costumes were created by the Academy Award-winning , London-based costume house COSPROP.
My favorite was the dress worn by Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria. I have never seen the movie and the dress itself is not particularly spectacular. I just thought it was cool that Julie Andrews’ DNA was a foot away from me.
One thing I learned is that anorexia is alive and well in Hollywood. The waistlines of the dresses were unbelievably minute.
I was going to go back with my camera, but I found these photos online: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nino63004/1510022739/
