I Think The House Fell On Dorothy, Too

When I was backing out of the garage yesterday, I glanced up and noticed a funny arrangement of the costumes in our over-flowing costume box. The red and white striped Raggedy-Ann stockings were hanging there reminiscent of the Wicked Witches’ legs sticking out from underneath Dorothy’s house in Munchkin land. I don’t know what happened to Dorothy, but by the looks of her dress I think she got caught up in the tornado, don’t you agree?

This machine is saving me from having to undergo back surgery. I am halfway done with my treatments on it and my back pain is about 75% better. If you look closely at the picture you can see that the lady has a belt around her waist with a tether that attaches to the machine. The belt tightens and releases over and over again to cause spinal decompression specifically on the disc with the herniation. The decompression allows fluid to go back into the disc. Over time the disc gets re-hydrated and isn’t herniated anymore. It is really working! (I have some pain now, but I think it is from the long car ride today to Orlando and back home again.) Oh yeah, while the 25 minute treatment is going on, I get to watch a DVD on the video monitor. I look forward to watching an uninterrupted “Everybody Loves Raymond” every afternoon! (I know, I know, my life is THAT pathetic!)

Cinematic Couture

A couple of years ago our wonderful Gardens Mall had an exhibit of dresses worn by Grace Kelly and others in Alfred Hitchcock movies. I totally LOVED it! Today while we were at the mall we happened upon another exhibit called “Cinematic Couture.” More love!! The girls thought it was cool, too! Here is a write-up:

The Gardens Mall is delighted to exhibit “CINEMATIC COUTURE” which features more than 40 original period costumes worn by such stars as Kate Winslet (Finding Neverland), Madonna (Evita), Nicole Kidman (Portrait of a Lady), Renee Zellweger (Miss Potter), Meryl Streep (Out of Africa), Johnny Depp (Finding Neverland), and Elizabeth Taylor (Young Toscanini). FACTS:This exhibition has been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as The Somerset Collection in Michigan. This exhibition will be making its Florida Debut at The Gardens Mall. The costumes are the actual costumes worn by the actors in the movies listed above. These costumes were created by the Academy Award-winning , London-based costume house COSPROP.

My favorite was the dress worn by Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria. I have never seen the movie and the dress itself is not particularly spectacular. I just thought it was cool that Julie Andrews’ DNA was a foot away from me.

One thing I learned is that anorexia is alive and well in Hollywood. The waistlines of the dresses were unbelievably minute.
I was going to go back with my camera, but I found these photos online: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nino63004/1510022739/
