This Will Be the Week

It is time to open the wheat and get “crackin'” (hee-hee) again with using my bread maker. I loved my original Breadman bread maker. I used it so much that it broke. It was the best because all of the recipes were based on grinding your own wheat. Do any of you know of any bread machines out there now that do the same thing? I HATE change! I want my old Breadman back! I am planning on spending a couple of hours this week getting my recipes organized and then the grinding will begin! (Okay, it is absolutely pitiful that I am excited about grinding wheat and making bread! But rest assured…I will do it in full make-up and heels!!)

Tubing Fun from Three Years Ago

I have been going crazy trying to find where on my computer I saved a bunch of pictures from different events. I accidentally found them a couple of days ago! They are saved in a completely random place that doesn’t make any sense. So I decided to post some fun pictures of our tubing experience in Jamaica. The water was FREEZING, but this is the most fun we have ever had!!! It was a land excursion from our spring break cruise in 2005.

Why is it Called Leap Year?

Comments Off on Why is it Called Leap Year?

Because of my constant need to apply meaning to EVERYTHING, hence the subtitle of our blog, last Leap Year I was itching to find out why it is called “Leap Year.” The name implies that we are actually SKIPPING something when in reality we are ADDING a day. So, thanks to my best friend Google, I got busy with my research.

Hundreds of years ago the English didn’t know what to do with the extra day, so they just “leapt” over it. The day had no legal status. One result of having “no laws” for the day was that women would propose to men, which by law they normally were not allowed to do.

I’m glad that most people don’t know the origin of the day. Imagine the chaos if once every four years no laws were obeyed? Oh wait, I guess it would probably be like most any day in corporate America…or like EVERY SINGLE DAY in the White House.
